Community Markets in Coronado Community Markets Coronado

I love a good market, whether I’m shopping for breakfast or Christmas gifts, and the community markets in Coronado fit the bill.

The market at Picasso Bar y Restaurante occurs once a month (usually the third Sunday of the month). It’s usually well-attended by vendors and shoppers alike. I’ve been delighted by the homemade goat cheese, jellies and nut butters, and breads and muffins; there’s also a lot of handmade jewelry, homemade soaps, and some art work. It’s also a great place to get information on services like reiki, meditation, yoga, and massage.

This is also the one day of the month that Picasso serves breakfast! They have recently redone their menu to include some killer pancakes and various egg options (one of which includes goat cheese and avocado — my favorite!).

There is also a weekly market at Paraiso, which is a restaurant/bar and small housing development outside of Coronado on the road to El Valle.  During high season, this market took place on Friday. I loved getting pineapple for a dollar, as well as papaya, broccoli, and fresh passionfruit juice. Though smaller than its Picasso counterpart, we also bought Melody’s natural skin care products (including a natural bug spray!) and homemade sausage, and enjoyed browsing (and taste testing) the pecan butter and various jams. Paraiso also offers breakfast, as they do every day.

Now this market takes place every Sunday, and, like the Picasso market, it has gotten smaller during the low season. I still like to go and support the vendors, because it encourages the continual growth of this fantastic community event.

There is also a market in El Valle. I’m the least familiar with this one, but it is by far the largest of the three and includes a lot of traditional crafts and souvenirs as well as a large selection of produce. It’s a must-do if you’re visiting the area, and a great place to do some produce shopping on a regular basis if you don’t mind the trip up the mountain. For us, we go occasionally to enjoy the scenic trip and for some variety.

The markets in Coronado provide a great opportunity to support your neighbors while you socialize and make new friends. Besides, who knows what treasures you might find!
