Sharing Life in Panama with Family from Back Home

By Lynda Bayliss lynda@ipreinfo.com

It’s always exciting when family comes to visit in Panama!   My brother, Buzz, and his friend James from Dallas, Texas, came to visit us for the first time.  Buzz and James were going to be here for eight days, so we had a lot to squeeze in to show them a “taste” of Panama.

We enjoyed beach walks and visits to Boquete and Panama City.  Our son, Trent, was doing a total immersion program with Habla Ya for two weeks, so we started their trip with a drive to Boquete.  It was about a six-and-a-half hour drive from Coronado.  When we got to Boquete, we got Trent checked in with his Panamanian host family (who only spoke Spanish!) and then we explored the town.  We went on a coffee tour, ate at some wonderful restaurants, and the guys did a zipline tour (not me…I already checked that off my bucket list!).

I gave Buzz and James a tour of the Coronado and Gorgona area restaurants, shopping and some of our rental properties so that they could get an idea of what I do.  We spent one day on a private yacht tour with 12 other friends and YES, we did see humpback whales.  The weather was as perfect as the dynamics of the group!

On our last full day together we went on a Panama Canal partial transit tour that I would recommend to anyone visiting Panama.  We visited Casco Antiguo (Casco Viejo) where we had the best $1 coconut snow cone ever!  Then we went to the Trump building and drove around Panama City.

Buzz and James had a great time and were both surprised at how large Panama City is and how different Panama was from what they originally thought.  They met some of our friends, saw our home and left with a better understanding of how life is for us in Panama. It was such a treat for us to spend quality time and share our lives with them.
