Dining Guide: Coronado Area

Dining in the beach area of Panama is getting more and more interesting, as new restaurants are popping up everywhere! I will highlight only a few in this article, as otherwise you would be here all day as you find yourself drooling at all the mouth-watering options for wining and dining. Others will be highlighted in Part 2!

Terrazas del Mar

One of my all-time favorite restaurants in the beach area is Terrazas del Mar, with Chef Pascal Finet.  This restaurant is located within the gates of the Vista Mar Golf and Beach Resort, just off the Panamerican Highway. When you pull up to the gates of the resort, simply tell them you are going to the restaurant and you shouldn’t have difficulty getting in. A must try is the “Tuna Trio” along with escargot! The setting is gorgeous, with indoor and outdoor seating options. Walk out on the pier for a spectacular view of the beach and Pacific Ocean after your magnificent meal.

La Teca

Restaurante La Teca is the “new place in town” featuring fine Spanish cuisine and can be found in The Village Mall (directly above Don Lee) in Coronado.  They have only been open a few months now, but have already drawn a regular stream of customers to their upscale and trendy atmosphere. Service is impeccable, and the menu holds many delectable options – particularly for the meat lover! Seafood is also an option, with my favorite appetizer being the fried calamari. An amazing selection of fine wine is also available to tantalize your palette. Happy Hour is held every Tuesday beginning at 5:00pm.

Picasso

Every Wednesday, Inside Panama Real Estate hosts Happy Hour at the ever-so-popular Picasso Bar y Restaurante within the gates of Coronado. Beginning at 5:00pm, expats, visitors and locals gather for mojitos, wine, cerveza and specialty pizzas while they catch up with all the goings on in the area. Many stories are shared and mucho fun is to be had!

George’s Poolside Bar

On Thursday, Inside Panama Real Estate joins forces with Groupo Corcione for beach volleyball and Happy Hour at Bahía in Gorgona. Volleyball begins around 3:30pm and is followed by margaritas, chicken quesadillas, the best chicken wings in town all created by the amazing George.

Loco’s Backyard Grill

Loco’s in Gorgona is an awesome place to kick back after some beach volleyball, or for a relaxing meal and a few drinks with friends.  My absolute favorite food item, hands-down, is the taquitos – best I’ve had anywhere! It is also the only place I have had a blue margarita! David and Stephanie truly go out of their way to make sure you are well taken care of. Happy Hour — now on Saturdays! — highlights $1.75 sangria, $2.50 Rum ‘n Coke, and $2.50 Electric Lemonade.

Luna Rossa

If you are looking for top notch Italian food, Luna Rossa has reopened and is serving homemade pasta, pizza and desserts. I love the stuffed ravioli, but it is all truly extraordinary. Lisa and her staff are beginning to organize specialty evenings, the most recent being a pasta and wine pairing evening. Amazing, with great prices!

Café Coronado

Café Coronado is located on the second floor of the Novey plaza, and is certainly the place to go for an awesome breakfast, brunch, lunch or even dinner. The food is exceptional, as is the service, and it is a nice relaxing place to meet with friends for a cappuccino, or to catch up on emails over a great meal. I have to say I love Anwar’s quiche as well as the Philly cheese steak sandwich.

El Litoral

Speaking of breakfast, El Litoral, on Punta Prieta in Coronado, is starting to serve breakfast on Saturdays and Sundays. I was invited to taste test their food items last week and they were awesome! Can’t wait to go check it out and visit with Anne Marie, Rene and little Vincent. While you’re there, check out the yoga facility and plan to go back and take a class!

Cholo’s Comida Mexicana

Last, but certainly not least, is Cholo’s Comida Mexicana. Owen and Michelle present delicious Mexican food in a fun and trendy surf atmosphere. Choose from tasty chicken nachos, enchiladas or burritos stuffed with mouth-watering veggie and meat fillings, Mexican pizza, and so, so much more. They even serve brunch on Sundays, and make an awesome sopapilla dessert. A must-try is the Lime ‘n Coco drink, made with fresh coconut milk, lime and a little rum for good measure.

As you can see, there is no shortage of great food and fun to be had in the beaches of Coronado.  Come out and try them for yourself, and let me know what your favorites are!
